Little Pink Houses for Pink Saturday

As I contemplate many things today one of those is the dream I have to one day have a pretty pink house to live in.  One of my all time favorite songs is Little Pink Houses by John Cougar Mellancamp.  I love the symbolism behind the song of every day American life.  For those of you who may not know the lyrics here they are:

There's a black man, with a black cat
Living in a black neighborhood.
He's got an interstate running through his front yard
Ya know he thinks, he's got it so good.
And there's a women, in the kitchen
Cleaning up the evenin' slop.
And he looks at her and says
'Hey darlin' I remember when you could stop a clock.'

CHORUS
Oh but ain't that America for you and me.
Ain't that America something to see baby
Ain't that America home of the free
Little pinks houses for you and me.

There's a young man, in a t-shirt
Listenin' to a rock n roll station.
He's got greasy hair, greasy smile
He says, "Lord this must be my destination."
'Cause they told me when I was younger
"Boy you're gonna be president."
But just like everything else those old crazy dreams
Just kinda came and went.

REPEAT CHORUS

Well there's people and more people
What do they know know know
Go to work in some high rise
And vacation down at the Gulf of Mexico
Ooh yeah
And there's winners and there's losers
But they ain't no big deal
'Cause the simple man baby pays for the thrills, the bills,
the pills that kill

REPEAT CHORUS UNTIL FADE

We all strive for something a little better than what we had growing up and wanting more for our children.  As I contemplate the economy I am truly afraid for our Nation's future and that of my daughter and her children.  I pray that those who are supposed to work for us, the citizens of this Country will see what really needs to be done and do it.  Now for something a little less surreal.  Here are some pictures I found on the internet of houses I can picture myself living in.

I can see myself sipping tea on the front porch there on a pretty sunny summer day

I imagine walking down this lovely street with fresh veggies and warm baked bread from the local store owners.  Wouldn't that just be oh so wonderful.

WOW!  Now my friends would never miss this!

drinking a lovely mint julep and welcoming my guest to my  bed and breakfast...maybe someday

baking cookies for the grandchildren, now this would be truly a home.

Just peaceful is what comes to mind when I envision living here.

Happy 3rd birthday and enjoy Pink Saturday and don't forget to visit Beverly

A New Look For My Blog

Since I finally got my computer back up and running I decided I needed a new look for my blog.  Although my blog is named Belles Roses Romantiques (French for Beautiful Romantic Roses), it's really a blog filled with my artwork, thoughts, poetry and creativeness.  I guess I should have thought of a different name, but I so love roses.  When I started my blog the intention was for it to be a place for me to share my writings, musings and other such stuff.  Along the way I've taken a few art classes and found a new love in life.  Drawing, painting, sketching, sculpting and mixed media art and digital art.  So I decided to make a background more set up for the artist in me.    I hope that you enjoy it.  Happy creating everyone!

Pink Saturday

It's has been ages since I participated in the weekly Pink Saturday and I've so missed it.  I missed all the wonderful ladies that participate and so in honor of them I have created a little digital piece I hope they all like.  I call it Save the Ta-Ta's.  Don't forget to visit our wonderful hostess Beverly.

It has been ions since I participated in the weekly Collage Obsession Challenge and that is partly due to my computer being down.  I finally got it up and running again so I thought it would be a great way to celebrate that by participating in the challenge.  Here is my collage, I hope you enjoy it.

Dear Mom

Dear Mom, I said a prayer for you
to thank the Lord above
For blessing me with a lifetime
of your tenderhearted love.

I thanked God for the caring
you've shown me through the years,
For the closeness we've enjoyed
in time of laughter and of tears.

And so, I thank you from the heart
for all you've done for me
And I bless the Lord for giving me
the best mother there could be

Finished Art Journal Piece

As promised here are the finished photos of my art journal page.  I wish that the pictures would have turned out a little bit better as I was getting a lot of glare back.  I didn't want to use the flash as this would only have worsened the situation.  For having so many windows in my house you would think I could have gotten a better light source.

Shading With Colored Pencils

In my art journal I have been working with learning how to shade with colored pencils.  I finished the shading yesterday and then finished up the project late last night.  I will post pictures of the finished project later today after I get some good photos.

I was looking through my first art journal that I started earlier this year and I am quite pleased to see a significant improvement from my first attempt.

here is where I have just begun to start to shade, showing the light coming from the left side.

much more shading, the color of the paper is already a buff color so I generally used cream, different shades of browns and peaches, white, red for the lips and indigo for the eyes.

stay tuned for the finished project!

Happy Creating

New Art Journal Project

I have learned a very valuable lesson.  In order to get better at drawing one must draw a little every day.  I hadn't picked up my art journal in months, many reasons why and I decided to the other night.  The piece I drew I was very upset with, so I sat down in earnest yesterday and started to draw.  So far I am liking her.  I plan to shade her in with color pencils and add a background.  Here she is so far.

I feel I put her eyes a little too far up, but over all I'm happy.  Much better than the drawing from the previous evening...LOL.

If you enjoy art or learning art as much as I do, please check out my friends new site.  She's a wonderful artist.  http://shwekhit.ning.com/  I'm looking forward to taking her digital art class and plan to take her oil painting class too.  Happy creating!!

Finished Painting

Well I finally finished my first mixed media painting on a canvas today.  Actually it's my first painting all together.  I've done watercolors in my art journal, but never anything on a canvas.  I'm going to sketch my next painting that is going to go on my 24 x 32 canvas.  I'm truly intimidated by the size, but I will feel great when I finish it.
